Abstract
Urban streetscapes play a significant role in enhancing the visual quality of a city and achieving visual pleasure; therefore, the role of urban facades as the primary elements forming the streetscape is clearly evident. The elements and components of urban facades, alongside design methods, shape the structure of a single facade and ultimately, by placing facades side by side, form a streetscape. The present research is qualitative and descriptive in nature. First, using inductive reasoning and gathering the writings of theorists, it identifies the design components. Then, with the help of open structured interviews, it analyzes the relationships between components to obtain a more precise tool for selecting facades, and finally, using 8 selected international samples, the importance level of each component has been selected. The results of this research indicate that similarity, composition, and architectural style of side facades, along with the simplicity of materials or color of facades placed together, hold the highest importance in the desirability of urban streetscapes, and adhering to all components to achieve desirability is not necessary. Having only 30 percent of the components is sufficient to achieve a desirable streetscape.
Research Objectives:

Categorizing and specifying the design components of facades and design methods to achieve an optimal streetscape.

Comparing architectural design components in urban facades to achieve an optimal streetscape in Iranian-Islamic cities.

Research Questions:

What are the influential design components of facades on the city's streetscape?

What are the architectural design components in urban facades to achieve an optimal streetscape in Iranian-Islamic cities?
