Types of Articles
Research Articles (Scientific-Peer Reviewed)
A research article is an original scholarly work resulting from analytical or experimental research in various scientific disciplines, contributing significantly to knowledge production and development. A research article addresses an original and novel topic based on a research gap in its field, making innovation one of its key elements. Another essential element is the use of a scientifically acceptable methodology recognized by the academic community. Therefore, a well-structured and systematic research design, clearly presenting methods and yielding credible results, is required. Conclusions should encompass all important aspects and innovative findings. Given that the main audience of research results includes academic figures such as university professors, researchers, and graduate students, adherence to scholarly writing conventions is essential.
Scientific-Promotional Articles
A scientific-promotional article aims to disseminate knowledge in a particular field of science, enhancing public understanding and introducing new scientific topics. These articles can be either translations or original works. The target audience of promotional articles is broader and may include readers with lower levels of scientific expertise compared to research articles. Therefore, a promotional article must combine scientific accuracy with clear and accessible language, requiring high writing skills. Effective communication of scientific content is crucial, and any failure to do so constitutes a breach of ethical writing principles and undermines the article’s credibility.
Review Articles (Scientific-Review)
Some consider review articles a type of promotional article due to their summary of previous research, while others differentiate them because of the author’s critical and analytical perspective. Also known as literature reviews, these articles can be published in research journals if they provide novel conclusions based on analysis of existing data. A review article examines information on a specific topic within a defined time frame. The author categorizes, integrates, and evaluates prior studies to clarify a research question, classify previous research, and assess and compare existing methods and approaches. Review articles are usually written by experts familiar with the topic. Maintaining accuracy and proper analysis is essential. Any negligence in this process prevents an accurate representation of the scientific field and fails to reveal gaps in knowledge.
