Abstract
Examining personality and the manifestations of transcendence and decay based on psychology is one of the interdisciplinary fields. Accordingly, literary and artistic works rooted in the social realities of human societies, expressing some cultural, social issues, and norms within society and individuals, have received significant attention. In this research, written in an analytical and descriptive manner, the manifestations and signs of transcendence and decay in the poetry of Nosrat Rahmani and contemporary Iranian painting have been examined and analyzed using the approach of Erich Fromm's "psychoanalysis of personality" theory. Erich Fromm is one of the great theorists whose thoughts and theories in the field of psychoanalysis, particularly the category of personality, are highly significant. The results obtained from this research, conducted through a meticulous examination of Nosrat Rahmani's complete poetry collection, indicate that Nosrat paid more attention to signs of decay than to signs of transcendence in his poems. He focuses greatly on death, alienation and withdrawal from society, despair and hopelessness, destruction and violence, and self-harm, while showing little attention to categories such as love, conscience, symbiotic relationships, and identity, which are signs of personality transcendence in Fromm's theory. In contemporary Iranian painting, both categories of transcendence and decay have received simultaneous attention.
