Abstract
In Iran's educational system, textbooks serve as the most important instructional tools for teachers and students. Among these, Persian textbooks hold particular significance as they transmit the spiritual heritage of the nation. Given that lyrical, mystical, and epic concepts constitute a substantial portion of our literary texts, familiarity with figurative language is essential for appreciating the beauty of literary works. Furthermore, out of twenty-five questions in the general Persian literature section of the national university entrance exam (Konkur), four are dedicated to literary devices. Thus, the methodology for teaching literary devices in newly compiled Persian textbooks for secondary education is of paramount importance.
According to statistical data published by the National Organization for Educational Testing, the response rates to questions on this topic in the first national entrance exam under the new system were analyzed across five experimental groups: experimental sciences, mathematics, humanities, arts, and languages. The results revealed that among all participants in these five fields, 20% answered correctly, 52% left the questions blank, and 27% answered incorrectly. These findings indicate that literary devices are not being effectively taught in these textbooks.
