The Application of Painting in Aesthetic Education and the Development of Creative Thinking in Children from the Perspective of P4C

Abstract
Philosophy for Children (P4C) was established through the efforts of Matthew Lipman. He sought to develop thinking by proposing a process of activities aided by stories. Story is the main foundation of thinking and communication and one of the tools for cultivating thinking in P4C; but is P4C effective regarding other arts, including painting, as a tool and medium in Philosophy for Children? The objective of this research, which employs a descriptive-analytical method, is to utilize the latent capacities in painting from Lipman's perspective as a medium for strengthening and developing children's thinking in the Philosophy for Children program. These latent characteristics in art prompted Lipman to address the features of arts, including painting, in his book "Art as an Event." This article attempts to answer, by relying on Lipman's views, the question: What is the role of painting in cultivating thinking dispositions in line with all the objectives of P4C? Lipman considers art a kind of event whose nature is a constant and challenging mystery. He views art as an intelligent, thoughtful process intertwined with life and considers art a single device whose analysis is beneficial. He also sees painting as causing the emergence of individual creativity, clarifying the subject, fostering multifaceted perspectives, and cultivating thought. The results of the research indicate: Through painting, children engage in practical and artistic work, and their thoughts and mental constructs improve through dialogue about paintings and artists' works. Painting, as an effective method, can properly undertake this responsibility. Therefore, painting is effective in improving children's philosophical thinking according to Lipman.
