The emergence of any architectural work rests upon fundamental pillars; form, function, geometry, and content can be considered the core elements of architecture. Each of these factors plays a role in the creation of the work: form relates to the shape, geometry, and aesthetics of the building; function refers to the efficiency and utilization of space; content pertains to the identity and theoretical foundations of the work. Since ancient times, architecture has sought to create spaces that, beyond beauty, functionality, and durability, can establish a connection with its users. Factors such as geometry and proportions have served as tools that assist architects in achieving this goal. This study aims to analyze the principles of geometry in the interaction between architecture and structure, along with their intellectual roots and theoretical bases, and to examine their manifestation in architecture. The research method is analytical-descriptive, employing library research and review of written documents. The findings indicate that understanding, perceiving, and spatially visualizing the static and dynamic forces within the load-bearing body of a building, with full awareness of the proportions and dimensions of its solid and void parts, precisely defines the application of geometry in the design of coverings, dimensions, and proportions of various building parts. This represents the functional application of geometry in architectural design.
Research Objectives:
To identify the geometric principles in the interaction of architecture and structure and their intellectual and theoretical foundations.
To examine the impact of geometry’s participation in the interaction between structure and architecture.
Research Questions:
What are the intellectual roots and theoretical foundations of applying geometric principles in architecture?
How does geometry influence the interaction between structure and architecture?
