The concept of identity differs between the traditional and modern eras. In the past, traditional patterns governed society; however, in the modern era, the concept of identity undergoes transformation due to industrial progress and development. Modernity has brought changes in many cultural and social fields, such as the family structure, and the visible manifestations of these changes in Iran can be observed during the Pahlavi era. During this period, society underwent transformation by disregarding cultural values. The presence of Western experts, population displacement, changes in men's aesthetic tastes, the teaching of modern housekeeping principles to women, the definition of social classifications, the neglect of local identities in nationalist approaches, the spread of consumer culture instead of production, and other cultural factors influenced urban structures and the architecture of public buildings. This included the segregation of neighborhoods based on social classes, the emergence of new architectural styles, the introduction of new decorations and furniture in Iranian homes, and the widespread destruction of traditional architecture. This research aims to examine the role of sound in the sense of belonging to a place in traditional houses and modern apartments, comparing and analyzing them. Returning to the principles of Iranian architecture and preserving the essence of postmodernism in the acoustic landscape can establish norms governing the sense of belonging to a place. Enhancing the identity component in the residential landscape will have effects such as fostering a sense of belonging, increasing visual perception, and improving the ability to distinguish and recognize spaces.
Research Objectives:
Identifying the role of sound in creating a dialectic between place and the audience in traditional houses and modern apartments.
